The Circulatory System

Today I learned about the Circulatory System. I was looking at a model of the heart, and a student was explaining to me that the heart has a very important job. It is a strong muscle that pumps blood throughout the body to deliver oxygen and nutrients to keep our body strong and healthy. Then I thought of how the heart also is a symbol for love. What kinds of things do you love with your heart? I love the United States of America for so many reasons! I especially love traveling around these great states and visiting different schools to see how students show their love of our country!

A Visit From the Puppies

Today was an exciting day in third grade. We had a surprise visitor. One of the students' mom brought a litter of puppies to show the class. They were so cute. It reminded me of my puppy days. They were very curious, and by the end of the visit, they were almost sleeping. I guess we wore them out.

Patriot Pete Tours Bryn Athyn's Historic District

I visited a beautiful museum in the Historic District of Bryn Athyn which has some wonderful examples of patriotic symbols. Can you guess whose head this is? Yes-it is Abraham Lincoln. It is a sculpture carved out of marble. The artist must have loved this country's leader very much, since he spent so much time getting all of his features carved with such detail.
This is the Bryn Athyn cathedral. It was such a big, beautiful church. I enjoyed going inside where the man in the book store gave us a free book about this amazing cathedral to share with the people that I visit next week.

I love this place! I am learning so much here.

Patriot Pete Visits Fifth Grade

While touring the school, I stopped into one of the fifth grade classrooms where I learned that the students are studying the United States of America. They are looking at different symbols that are connected with our country and what those symbols stand for.

Patriot Pete Meets BACS Headmaster

At the end of our school day, I was given a tour of BACS. I learned that love of country is spread wide around BACS and in Bryn Athyn! Here is the headmaster of the school I am visiting. As part of the unit on American Heroes in Social Studies, the students learned about a hero named Harriet Tubman who helped to free many slaves. They wrote key events in the life of Harriet Tubman, and published mini books that are displayed on the board behind me. Harriet Tubman sure was brave for traveling on the Underground Railroad so many times, in spite of the dangers of being caught and harmed. She really loved our country and wanted everyone to be free. What a great lesson in patriotism!

Patriotic Pete Arrives at BACS

Our Third Grade class at Bryn Athyn Church School is so excited to have welcomed Pete! Our class shows our patriotism by putting up and taking down the American flag and school flag each day before and after school. Pete was excited to help the students do this his first full day here! We taught Pete about flag etiquette, and he helped to make sure that the flag never touched the ground.
