Marine Visit at Mary D. Lang!!!

Today in one of the first grade classes at Mary D. Lang Elementary School, a Marine came to visit and share lots of stories about his travels and showed us really cool artifacts from his time in Iraq like an Iraqi flag and ID card, a Marine Flag, his combat vest, and even some medals he received while he was over in the war!

I also just found out today that I will be taking a field trip with my fifth grade friends to historic Philadelphia, PA and will get to go see sights such as the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall, and Betsy Ross's House!! Today they showed me some neat websites and taught me a little about what I might see and learn on Friday!!

My first day at Mary D. Lang was so exciting!!

Not only did I plant flowers in honor of Earth Day and America, but the first graders taught me how to say the Pledge of Allegiance and how to hold my hand over my heart AND the second grade students told me all about being a good citizen, especially being part of a classroom. They showed me some really cool math games too =)

I even learned how to properly fly the American flag and what flag etiquette means!!

Mary D. Lang Elementary School

Today I arrived at Mary D. Lang Elementary School in Kennett Square, PA, MUSHROOM CAPITAL OF THE WORLD!!! =) Today, in honor of my arrival, a fifth grade teacher, Miss Smith, will read a story all about the pledge of allegiance and what the American Flag means!

After we read the story, in honor of Earth Day, we will be planting RED, WHITE, and BLUE flowers for America.

Being a patriot means being a good citizen and caring for your country! I am very excited to show how I care about my country by doing something good for the environment!!

I am going to learn so many new things today! =)

Springfield Pennsylvania

I am spending my last day walking around in Springfield Pa. Its a pretty little town in Delaware County. I plan on visiting a war memorial in Media PA to celebrate the gift of freedom that so many men and women have given their lives for. Thank you to them!!!
I am looking forward to returning home to Mechanicsburg PA!
I made some friends on my adventure!

The Big Apple

I visited New York City on Saturday April 10, 2010. There I meet some policemen and firemen who were very brave and patriotic during the worst event in our country's history, the events of 911. I really admire them.

I also wet to Saint Patrick's Cathedral. My school has the same name!

Park Day at Antietam National Battlefield

What a great day we had today at Antietam Battlefield in Maryland. Today was the annual Civil War Preservation Trust Park Day. We got to plant different types of trees in a part of the battlefield that few people get to see. We were right along the Antietam Creek. The kinds of trees we planted where red buds, witch hazel, and a type of maple tree. Check out these photos of my friend CJ planting trees and helping to preserve our history.

Here we are learning how to properly plant the trees

My friend CJ and his mom digging a hole to plant another tree

After lunch a group of Sergeants and Sergeant Majors from Connecticut pulled in to the park. They were there to learn about the battle and I got to ask one of them some questions. Hope you enjoy my small interview with him.

It is important that we save our Civil War battlefields so that everyone can enjoy them and to learn more about our history.

Proud to be an American everyday...
